After reading several articles about the new Google Co-op feature the Custom Search Engine, is this my first experience with this great (and fast) new service from Google.

Community powered search is not new, you find another version on the main page of this blog the “Swicki“. What is so special with the new Custom Search Engine from Google? First of all Google search results are fast and most of the time the SERP’s are from some value (if you use the right search query). Next its possible to insert the form and the results in your own website, this way you can create you’re personal search page together with other items (banner, RSS feeds etc.). In the beginning the internet has already several portal sites (like Yahoo or all the start pages with hundreds of links), to give the visitor the most important links, an Internet search option or just information.

Today in the Web 2.0 generation, communities are the hot place where people start surfing every day. People like to meet people with related interests and like to see what other people has posted to items they have placed or commented the day before.
For example the webdigity forum is evaluated into a community since people are not only there for the forum but also for other stuff like the tutorials, the CSS design gallery, the link directory and last but not least the features like the forums shop where people can buy things with the points they earned while posting at the forum. Today I noticed the new partnership between Templatemoster and AddThis.com. First I thought it must be a web-design related company, but I was wrong:

AddThis.com is a kind of social-bookmarking service with some special features. First of all you don’t need to start your next bookmark list, just continue with your favorite one like del.icio, blinklist or others. Just like the service at feedburner.com you click just one link and next you get access to the most common social bookmarking websites on the internet. That will say it’s up to the visitors choice. A few days before I noticed this news in a thread at the webdigity forum, the formerly online spreadsheet tool gets a brother a word processor.

Google docs logoSome people would ask why this, there are so many (MS Word, OpenOffice)?

Both programs Google Docs and Spreadsheats doesn’t have all the features from OpenOffice or MS office, but they have some nice online features which are not available in this big desktop applications.

Online sharing
It’s possible documents and spreadsheets with other users for reading and writing. Invite single users or large groups to read you information with the only requirement a web browser. Read the rest of this entry »
