or Google the Open Source Company presents their new technology!
The Google I/O conference in San Francisco is the first of his kind, during two days the conference provides the attendee 90 sessions grouped by the following categories:
Ajax and JavaScriptFurthermore they held sessions like Code labs, Tech Talks and the Fireside Chat. So maybe you’re looking for the “Search” category? Yes there are a few lessons about search optimization and the Ajax Search API, but most sessions are about new modern technologies like Gears and the Google App Engine.

Those people who knows Google as the search engine provider and advertising company would be very surprised about the strong open source character of this conference. With the vision
Create a better, full featured Internet using modern technologies
Google has invited any developer to use Google technologies in their own applications.
While listening to several sessions, I get an good idea about Gears, OpenSocial, Google APIs like Authentication API, content API’s and the Google Checkout API. Before joining this conference I accepted to learn something I can use within my next projects. OpenSocial is something I like, a kind of standard how to create your own Social Community.
My first impression about Gears is not so positive; the idea is really good, but it looks like a browser add-on aka Adobe flash (not the function but the idea how to provide the technology to the client). All presentations are available to the public next week on the Google I/0 website.
They should come to England some time. All good gatherings happen in US
hehe, thats because the weather is so bad in England…
Did they talk about Android (their mobile platform)?
My personal experience with Android hasn’t been that stellar, but hopefully they’ll improve their API and documentation.
yeah they held several sessions about Android:
- An Introduction to Android
- Building an Android Application 101
- Anatomy & Physiology of an Android
- Inside the Android Application Framework
- Android Fireside Chat
next I will look for the videos they told us about during the conference (will post the link too)
Here is the link to all videos:

Are there any other materials of this gathering exept videos?
It is really interesting.
hi Els,
doesn’t look like, do tried to post a question on that site (link above)?
Hey, It is really nice event. We always wait for such conference of google in india.
@Hiddenbrains,
I think you need to wait for that very long, don’t think that google will held this kind of local events.
That sounds (& looks) like an awesome event - Do you know if they have any plans to do it again? Thanks!
Yes sure, next year there will be the next conference.
I agree with the previous comments, this looks like a really cool event. Big thanks to Olaf for providing the link to the videos of the event.
I wish they wouldnt have stopped the ability to request a Google API key. Those things are like gold now.
So, I actually saw a phone in a magazine recently with the Google Android OS running on it. It was actually a TMobil phone. Does anyone know if that is the company they are teaming up with or are they going to be company agnostic and release it to whoever will use it?
Hi,
are you talking about the api key for the (old) search?
Hi Olaf. Yes for the old search. I have a couple applications that ask for an API key and they don’t provide them anymore. Unless I’m looking in the wrong place.
yep they stopped providing them.
I switched an old application (to Yahoo) after I noticed that the api server went offline too (not sure if this was a permanent offline)
If you’re able to modify the applications you should try the “paid” CSE version, using this application you get XML feeds too (and the fee is very low)
